Support for Teaching
The Teacher packs for Salters Science provide a rich
source of activities which can be used as part of any GCSE
science programme. Together with the Student Books, they provide
the basis for a complete scheme of work for centres which use the
OCR assessment for the course. These resources are backed up by
an extensive system of support for users.
There are three main sources of support for teachers
using the Salters GCSE Science course or materials.
Information about cost or availability of student
books, teacher packs and CD-ROMs is available from Heinemann
Educational Publishers.
Specifications, sample examination papers and guidance
on coursework assessment are available from the subject officer
for Salters Science, Science Group, OCR.
The Salters Project at the University of York provides
a range of support services, including this web-site.
Email, telephone or postal contact is always available
at the addresses below to answer queries about aspects of delivery
of the course.
Talks based on activities from the course are presented
at ASE Annual Meetings and at most regional meetings, and the project
director is always glad to meet users.
INSET courses at York and at other venues provide
opportunities to meet other users, and to focus on specific aspects
of the course or coursework assessment.
Visits can be arranged to any school or college which
has an interest in the course, whether you are already using the
course, or just interested in finding out more about it. Visits
can be 'twilight', half-day or full day. There is a fee for this
service, but the programme can be negotiated to suit your individual
needs. Help with planning routes through the course, with organisation
of particular activities, or in identifying opportunities for coursework
assessment, or teaching Sc1.1 or 1.2 can be delivered to all science
department staff, often at less than the cost of sending one member
out to a training day.
