Single, Double and Triple Award Science

The Salters GCSE Science project was deisgned to provide a motivating course for double award science (20% of curriculum time in years 10 and 11). A sub-set of the materials can be used to prepare candidates for GCSE Science: Single award.

Seperate science subject specifications are also available from OCR. Each of these consists of the relevant Double Award content, plus extension topics. The OCR specifications offer two alternative sets of extension topics in each of biology, chemistry and physics. Centres may choose either of these, although in each subject, one of the options is designed to match the Salters' approach.

By making use of these carefully related specifications, Centres can simplify administration and provide a high degree of common content in schemes of work for single, double and/or triple award, so making it easier to respond to differing development of individual pupils by allowing later decisions about transfer between subjects.
