| The Salters GCSE Science project is a unique
collaboration between the Science Curriculum Centre at the University
of York, Oxford and Cambridge and Royal Society of Arts Examinations
(OCR) and Heinemann Educational Publishers.
The Science Curriculum Centre co-ordinated the
work of many teachers and science educators in producing teaching
support materials for an exciting new, applications led course,
OCR provide a nationally validated assessment which matches
the teaching course and recognises and rewards the skills
and competencies it promotes, as well as the scientific knowledge
and understanding which it delivers. The teaching support
materials are published by Heinemann.
For each school year of the course (year 10
and year 11), the following resources are published:
A Student Book, in full colour, which provides
full cover of the specified content of the course, in stimulating
contexts. The book is interactive, and linked to additional
activities provided in the -
Teacher Resource Pack (TRP). This provides an
outline scheme of work, teaching notes for managing a wide
variety of learning activities, master copies of activity
sheets for students, and a guide for technicians, as well
as answers to questions in the student book.
CD-ROM: All of the content of the teacher resource
pack is available on CD-ROM, in a format which is easily edited
to suit the needs of each individual centre or teacher. The
disc also contains copy for many alternative or additional
activities which can be used for reinforcement or extension
of the work in the TRP. A valuable additional resource on
the CD is a set of guide-lines on how to adapt activities
to meet the needs of students with a variety of different
types of learning difficulties.
