Dr Lindsay C. Stringer

Your role in SUNLIBB:  I am involved in work package 8 on ‘Sustainability Assessment’. Within this, I will be working together with a post-doctoral research assistant to review the current sustainability policy and guidelines on biofuels from the European Union, allowing the lifecycle analysis component of SUNLIBB (to be undertaken by North Energy) to be situated within a sustainability policy context. I am also involved in work package 9 in which I am responsible for producing briefing notes about the SUNLIBB project. These will be presented to relevant policy stakeholders at various intervals throughout the research in order to keep them up-to-date with the project progress and findings.

STAVROS AFIONIS joined the SUNLIBB team in April 2011 as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Leeds, working with Dr Lindsay Stringer in Work Package 8 (WP8) on sustainability policy and guidelines on biofuels. Stavros studied political science in Greece and holds a MA (Dist.) degree in Environmental Politics and a PhD in International Relations and Politics, both from Keele University in the UK. His main research interests focus on international climate change negotiations and EU environmental politics. He is also interested in global biofuels policies, having recently authored a book on Brazil's ethanol fuel programme, published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing in 2010.
