VIB is involved in a systems biology approach to study lignin biosynthesis and its integration into the wider metabolism in Arabidopsis. To this end, VIB combines its expertise in the analysis of microarray profiling, metabolic profiling of small molecular weight phenolics (with LC/MS) and primary metabolites (with GC/MS). Using these tools, VIB will analyse a large collection of Arabidopsis mutants with defects in lignin biosynthesis. Systems data will be integrated with results from saccharification experiments on the same mutants.
