Bioniqs is pioneering the development and implementation of bespoke ionic solvents in commercial applications and within this project will evaluate ionic liquids for their ability to enhance the degree of biomass saccharification. Primary strategies include the selective dissolution of either lignin or cellulose to produce cellulose enriched biomass or cellulose enriched solutions, respectively; or assist the saccharification process through effective disruption of the cellular structure to facilitate enzymic action. This work will be undertaken on a number of plant biomass samples. Additionally, Bioniqs will aim to produce extracts which can be of value for further scientific analysis and secondary revenue streams..
