Top talent, strong calibre, career focused, engaged.

These are just some of the ways graduate employers attending the University of York’s Careers Fairs this autumn described York students.

Attendance broke all records this year, with over 3,000 students making the most of the opportunity to seek out insights, internships, and graduate jobs from recruiting organisations – many of which are in The Times Top 100.

The Careers Fairs in Management and Finance, Technology and Law attracted more than 120 top employers searching for commercially aware, academically strong candidates - and York did not disappoint.

Comments from employers included:

“York offers high quality students often with the profile of spare time activities essential to an application” – Royal Air Force

“Excellent academic record, highly motivated students” – BPP Law School

“Top quality students, aware of importance of commercial awareness” – Shearman and Sterling

Employers, including Baker & McKenzie, Cancer Research UK, Civil Service Fast Stream, Coca Cola Enterprises, Jaguar Land Rover and Morgan Stanley, were impressed by those students who offered a strong academic background, alongside developed employability skills and business knowledge.

Louise Thurston, Marketing and Communications Manager, Careers, says: “At York, there are many employability-enhancing initiatives in place to support the development of our students - from society and sport club roles, to internships, to opportunities to study abroad, to volunteering or starting up their own business.

“It is up to those students who wish to stand out from the crowd to make the most of all that is on offer during their time at York and ensure they take part in a variety of activities that make them interesting to recruiters.”
