Speaker: Professor Simon Gilbody, Department of Health Sciences/Hull York Medical School
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a popular and effective treatment for common mental health problems such as depression and anxiety. It is a structured psychological therapy with a strong theoretical basis and is well supported by high quality research evidence (randomised controlled trials). Some would suggest that is can now be delivered by computer, but the evidence is mixed. The Mental Health Research Group in York has been commissioned to conduct the largest trial to date of computerised CBT. Professor Simon Gilbody leads this trial and will discuss the challenges and opportunities of computer-delivered therapy.
