Magnetic healing: The real power and mystery of magnets for healthcare

Tuesday 17 November 2009, 7.00PM

Speaker: Professor Quentin Pankhurst, Royal Institution, London

From Mesmer to MRI, our fascination with the invisible power of magnetism has always been strong - but when it comes to 'magnetic healing', how much of it is fact, and how much fiction? Quentin Pankhurst, a nanotechnology expert, and the Director of the Davy-Faraday Research Laboratory at the Royal Institution, will discuss with us the fascinating field of healthcare biomagnetics.

This lecture is the third in the series The nanoworld: Exploration and exploitation. This series of talks will focus on the world of nanoscience and explore how it enriches and stimulates technological innovation, why it is so important for the understanding of our natural environment and how it helps us to develop new technologies for an improved healthcare.

To supplement this series, there will be two opportunities to visit the York JEOL Nanocentre on 3 November and 8 December.

Location: Room P/L001, Physics

Admission: Admission is free and open to all
