The University needs to process certain information about its current, past and potential students as part of the necessary functioning of the institution. In doing so it must comply with the Data Protection Act 1998. The Act governs the University’s use of personal data and is also concerned with the rights of individuals to gain access to personal information held about them by the University. The terms of the Act relate to data held in any format, including written notes and records as well as electronic data.
A full record of the purposes for which the University processes personal data is maintained by the Information Commissioner in the Public Register of Data Controllers.
