First Year Foundation Course

The 2004 Practical Project

At York we recognise that talented musicians may come from a wide variety of academic backgrounds. To help you develop a core body of essential techniques, there are additional courses for first year students. These are Aural Perception and Writing About Music. Tutorial classes in harmony and counterpoint, and keyboard harmony are a compulsory part of the course.

In the second half of the Autumn term first year students choose from one of four First Year Projects, designed to give you experience of the project format and practice at delivering seminar papers before entering the full cross-year project system.

York is the perfect environment to explore and grow for three years, both musically and personally. Performance, academia and composition are all equally valued. There are endless amounts of singing opportunities if you wish to make the most of your time here.
