Julian Argüelles

Julian Argüelles

Julian Argüelles is a lyrical and mellow saxophone player, but it is his unique ability to write pieces which are modern and progressive while still having great tunes that has brought him widespread popularity. His last three albums were awarded CD of the Year in the Independent on Sunday. 1997's Skull View beat both Cassandra Wilson and Wynton Marsalis to be the Critics' Choice at that year's BT Jazz Awards. Julian directs the Julian Arguelles Octet, which is a University Ensemble in Residence. He also gives jazz harmony classes in the department.
