Work-Study Awards

In addition to departmental awards, scholarships and assistantships, postgraduate students may apply for the opportunity to teach or work in the department.

Departmental Employment

The Department hires postgraduate students on an hourly basis during academic terms to assist with undergraduate interview days, guests, receptions, concerts and general office work. Continuing students and students who have been offered a place to study may ask to be placed on the list for such employment. Contact Catherine Duncan for more information.

Note: A new list is compiled each autumn, so returning students must reapply each year.

Teaching Opportunities

The Music Department offers a variety of opportunities for our Postgraduate students to gain paid teaching experience in the Department. Positions include teaching assistantships on Undergraduate Projects, contributing to the first-year Foundation Course for Undergraduates and running the first-year Aural Perception classes. Details of available positions in the next academic year are circulated to all MPhil/PhD students by email during the previous summer term, with information of how to apply. You must be an existing Music Department research student in order to be eligible to apply for these positions.
