The Music Research Centre supports an active community of artists and
researchers. This section highlights some of the work being done by current
or recent students.
Angie Atmadjaja's work centres in abstract, minimal audio/visual installations that explore psychoacoustic and acoustic phenomena. By articulating pure sound materials such as sinewaves and filtered noise, she create works that place viewers in a realm of pure experience where sound is perceptually tangible.

Theo Burt is an artist working on a practice-based PhD in the MRC. His work draws on interests in perceptual relationships between sound and image and aesthetic applications of technology. Recent projects have focused on the use of related sound and video to create a visibility of process, and the effect of partial-predictability on perceptions of time. His work includes installations, live performance and fixed-media pieces.
Peter is currently a researcher in the New Aesthetics in Computer Music project. His research is concerned with the relationship between technology and aesthetics, and issues regarding representation in music and sound art. His PhD thesis focuses on the Viennese record label Mego as a body of work exemplifying an anti-representational approach to music, examining the tools and compositional processes involved.
Thom Blake is a musician and writer working towards a PhD as part of the Music Research Centre's New Aesthetics in Computer Music project. Working closely with independent artists and record label owners, his work examines the role of independent production within experimental electronic and computer music. Thom's work identifies ways in which aesthetic products are shaped and defined by the organization and production ethics of the institutions involved.
