On 'The Wire'

Tuesday 13 March 2012, 4.30PM

Speaker(s): Tim Lawrence (English) Andy Munzer (English)

Centre for Modern Studies postgraduate forum seminar

Our final interdisciplinary session of the term will pair PhD candidates Tim Lawrence and Andrew Munzer on the theme of American Stories/American Spaces. Shifting away from his work on the fiction of Samuel Beckett, Tim's paper is titled 'The narrative of economics/the economic of narrative: realist structures in   The Wire '. Andrew is in the third year of his doctoral studies in 'spatial constructions' in postmodern and contemporary American fiction with special emphasis on the writing of Raymond Carver. His paper for this special event will ask how specific spaces in Raymond Carver's short stories function in order to generate and 'drive' narrative.

The session will be chaired by Dr. Alex Beaumont, Teaching Fellow in the Dept of English and Related Literature at York.
