Is examination of history useful to 21st century campaigners?

Tuesday 25 October 2016, 5.00PM

Speaker(s): Mike Childs, Head of Science, Policy & Research, Friends of the Earth

Mike Childs has been a campaigner at Friends of the Earth for over 20 years, leading some of its most successful campaigns (for example the big Ask Campaign for the Climate Change Act).

In 2015-16 he and colleagues collaborated in a History & Policy (http://www.historyandpolicy.org/) forum with historians working on 18-20th century social movements to ask what modern campagners might learn from history. The resulting book,Campaigning for Change: Lessons from History (2016) forms the basis of his talk.

Supported by a Centre for Modern Studies small project grant.
