I am interested in how the research performance of Higher Education Institutions are measured and assessed. In particular, whether metrics are useful and how they impact on the behaviour of staff and decision making processes
Title of Research Topic: The uses and abuses of research metrics.
Supervisors: Professor Mathias Beck and Dr Kiran Fernandes
My first degree is a BSc in Psychology from York. After graduation I began my career as a University administrator and I have worked at a number of institutions including Bradford, Durham (at their Stockton Campus) and Hull. I have experience of nearly all the major areas of administration from admissions, examinations, teaching quality, planning and research management including research evaluation. I am now the Research Strategy and Policy Manager for the University of York.
I completed a part time Masters Degree with the Department of Management at York and became interested in how the theory of performance measurement linked to my full time job in research management. I am currently trying to work out how to improve the decision making processes relating to how research is measured and reviewed.
