Provides links to an alphabetical list of full text electronic journals available at York, subject lists of full text and other electronic journals, publishers' collections of electronic journals, online newspapers and news services and directories of electronic journals. - Biology Weekly Bulletin - weekly updated departmental news of interest to York students and staff from the Department of Biology. - Public Library of Science (PLoS) Biology - free open access peer-reviewed research journal published monthly by the Public Library of Science.

A gateway to bibliographic databases, statistical datasets, electronic journals and other Web resources available to members of the University. Includes guides and links to help. Also allows cross-searching of resources, and Alerts. Login with your University username and password to access all of these features. - BioMedNet - an Internet-based club for researchers, clinicians, and students in Biology and Medicine. You can access various sources of electronic information here but need to register to use the site.
- Neuroscience Gateway and Allen Brain Atlas - Neuroscience Gateway, a comprehensive source for the latest research, news and events in neuroscience and genomics research developed collaboratively by the Allen Institute for Brain Science and Nature Publishing Group. The Allen Brain Atlas is a freely available scientific resource developed by the Allen Institute, which provides maps of the expression of approximately 20,000 genes in the mouse brain.
- Medline via OvidWeb - biomedical database, supplemented by pre-Medline citations and by citations supplied electronically by publishers. US free version Medline via PubMed also available.

- Biology Browser - serves as a starting point for anyone seeking biology information on the Internet. Managed by BIOSIS, BiologyBrowser features free resources and useful links, and provides a forum for connecting hundreds of researchers and information scientists worldwide.
- INTUTE: Health and Life Sciences - provides access to a searchable catalogue of Internet sites and resources covering the health and life sciences (part of INTUTE).
- BioSites - a searchable listing of important Internet resources in the biomedical sciences.
- Dennis Kunkel Microscopy - image gallery contains hundreds of micrographs of scientific, biological and medical subjects photographed with electron microscopes.
- Ecology.com - Portal and news site dealing with ecological inmformation. includes World Population estimate updated constantly on home page.
- Environment Information Resources - maintained by the University of York (part of York Information Connections).
- Ecto and Endoparasites - a directory of links to medical and veterinary parasitology.
- Harvard University Biology Links - list of links from the University's Dept of Molecular and Cellular Biology.
- Index Anglais-Français - an list English-French translations of biological terms, provided by the Pasteur Institute.

- Dictionary of Cell Biology (3nd edition) - The Dictionary of Cell Biology is intended to provide quick access to easily-understood and cross-referenced definitions of terms frequently encountered in reading the modern biology literature..
- Kimball's Biology Pages - an encyclopaedic site with definitions and mini-essays on a range of biological topics. Terms are mostly from the areas of molecular and cellular biology.
- LSTN Bioscience - subject centre for the life, food, agricultural and biomedical sciences. The Centre provides support or discussion, dissemination and innovation in all aspects of learning, teaching and assessment. Coordinate and share information in a coherent and accessible form within higher education.
- MedWeb: Home of Medical Teaching Innovation - from the Medical School, University of Birmingham.
- TLTP Biodiversity Consortium - project aiming to produce interactive multimedia computer-based learning (CBL) material covering all areas of biological diversity for use in undergraduate teaching.

- BIOSCI/Bionet electronic newsgroup network for biology - BIOSCI is a set of electronic communication forums - the bionet USENET newsgroups and parallel e-mail lists - used by biological scientists worldwide.
- Howard Hughes Medical Institute - a nonprofit medical research organization that employs hundreds of leading biomedical scientists. Additionally hrough its grants program and other activities, HHMI is helping to enhance science education at all levels.
- Natural History Book Service - Home of the world's biggest environmental bookstore. Search, browse and order from NHBS BOOKNET, a descriptive catalogue of in-print or forthcoming environment-related books, CD-ROMs and other materials.
- Species 2000 - has the objective of enumerating all known species of plants, animals, fungi and microbes on Earth as the baseline dataset for studies of global biodiversity. Can be used to verify the scientific name, status and classification of any known species via the Species Locator on this site.
- Tree of Life: a phylogenetic navigation system for the Internet - Designed to link biological information available in the form of the phylogenetic tree linking the organisms.

- Biodiversity Heritage Library - Ten major North American natural history museum libraries, botanical libraries, and research institutions have joined to form the Biodiversity Heritage Library Project. The Library provides access to many full text items in including journals and books as well as promoting the use and inclusion of Open Access resources. Subject areas covered include all major aspects of biodiversity.

- Bristol Biomed Image Archive - a collection of medical, dental and veterinary images for use in teaching.
- OMNI - The OMNI project is a gateway to high quality biomedical information on the internet for the higher education and research community in the UK. Users can browse or search for resources of interest. OMNI also offers training in the use of networked information.
- Medical Research Council - Information about MRC Institutes and Units, Interdisciplinary Research Centres, and on other UK Research Councils is also available.
- NLM HyperDOC - WWW Server of the National Library of Medicine (US).
- National Network of Libraries of Medicine (NN/LM) - The National Network of Libraries of Medicine (NN/LM) provide access to biomedical and health care information resources.
- The Wellcome Trust Online - includes WISDOM: Wellcome Information Service Databases On Medicine (four databases accessible through telnet: Sources of Biomedical Research Funding; Science Policy Information News (SPIN); Information Service Catalogue; Biomedical Research Assistant Vacancies Database) and the Wellcome Institute for the History of Medicine Library.

- Australian Government Environmental Resources - this portal provides access to online services and information provided by Commonwealth, State and Local Governments. Information is organised by seven broad environmental themes - Atmosphere, Biodiversity, Coasts and Oceans, Environment Protection, Heritage, Inland Waters, and Land. These themes correspond to the Australian State of the Environment Reporting categories.

- UNEP World Conservation Monitoring Centre - provides information for policy and action to conserve the living world.

- BioTech is a good collection of sources including biotechnology aspects of molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics and medicine.
- CMS-MBR Molecular Biology Resource - a compendium of electronic and Internet-accessible tools and resources for Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Molecular Evolution, Biochemistry, and Biomolecular Modeling.
- Entrez Browser - a molecular biology database system that presents an integrated view of DNA and protein sequence data along with associated MEDLINE entries. The Entrez sequence databases include the complete protein and nucleotide sequence data from GenBank, EMBL, DDBJ, PIR-International, PRF, Swiss-Prot, and PDB.
- European Molecular Biology Laboratory - related to this is EMBnet Switzerland, information from the European Molecular Biology Network.
- ExPASy WWW molecular biology server - maintained by the University of Geneva. Dedicated to the analysis of protein and nucleic sequences with browsing facilities for a number of databases.
- The Genome Database has protein databases, in collaboration with the Human Genome Project.
- Gramene - a curated, open-source, Web-accessible data resource for comparative genome analysis in the grasses. Data formerly in RiceGenes is now integrated in Gramene. Aims to facilitate the study of cross-species homology relationships using information derived from public projects involved in genomic and EST sequencing, protein structure and function analysis, genetic and physical mapping, interpretation of biochemical pathways, gene and QTL localization and descriptions of phenotypic characters and mutations.
- National Centre for Biotechnology Information - contains the NIH genetic sequence database, a collection of all known DNA sequences.
- Molecular Biology Gateway to the WWW
- MRC Human Genome Mapping Project Resource Centre (UK)
- Protein Data Bank - includes the Molecules R US interface for searching the database.
- Research Tools - Part of BioMedNet. It contains peer-reviewed contributions from authors and a range of product and company information. You can browse through or search for specific words or concepts on various freely available databases.
