Walk-in Access

to Electronic Resources

The Walk-in Access Pilot Project enables University of York Library external members and visitors to access a range of electronic resources (e.g. eJournals, eBooks and databases), whose licence agreements allow use by Walk-in Users.

The pilot will be monitoring use of the service, the technical and administrative support required to provide it and reviewing feedback from users.

Availability

The service is available during staffed opening hours at the JB Morrell Library. It is not available during self-service hours. Opening hours can be checked here.

This service is available to external members and visitors to the JB Morrell Library.

Visitors from other universities should first check whether they can use the JANET Roaming Service instead, as this may better meet their needs.

Access to electronic resources by Walk-in Users is only available via one dedicated Walk-in Access computer terminal in the JB Morrell Library.

Using the service

Each time you visit the JB Morrell Library to use the Walk-in Access service you will need to provide proof of identity and sign and agree to the Walk-in Access Terms and Conditions. Please ask at the Enquiry Desk in the JB Morrell Library on arrival (or the Lending Services desk during evenings and weekends). We recommend that you contact us in advance, particularly before your first visit, to book a slot and to let us know which resources you are likely to want to use. As we are in the early days of providing this pilot service we want to try to ensure we are prepared for your visit and able to provide what you need.

Please ensure you bring with you one of the following forms of identification:

Documentation required: one of the following
University of York External Library Card
Driving Licence (full or photo licence accepted)
Passport
Sconul Access Card + Home institution card

Unfortunately, you will not be able to use the Walk-in Access service without producing the specified identification.

Pages may be printed, subject to copyright restrictions, and subject to the scale of charges in place at any one time (currently 6p per single-sided sheet A4, 9p per double-sided A4 sheet). Please remember that you must abide by the Walk-in Access Terms and Conditions.
