The Library is currently piloting an RSS feed for new acquisitions. The feed provides a daily update on books and audiovisual items that have been recently added to the shelves of the JB Morrell Library. The feed does not include new issues of journals. The feed is available from the new books lists.
RSS is an acronym commonly used to mean "Really Simple Syndication" and is a format for distributing news and alerts, referred to as an RSS feed. This feed will usually just have the title, a url and a brief description of the news item. Users subscribe to these feeds and the content is delivered to their desktop when it becomes available. Many news websites such as the BBC are now using RSS and have RSS icons on their website to enable users to subscribe to the latest news feeds. In order to subscribe to RSS feeds, extra software is usually required. However, some web browsers and email readers are already RSS-aware, and will allow you to subscribe to RSS feeds without the need to install additional software.
There are a wide range of news readers available for a range of operating systems. The Library cannot recommend a particular news reader but the BBC News website and Google both provide links to news readers.
Please note: the Library does not provide support for news readers.
Unfortunately, at the current time, RSS-aware software is not available as standard on supported campus office and classroom PCs.
