ULRICH'S periodical directory is a bibliographic database concerned with providing an accurate, comprehensive and authoritative guide to serials worldwide. ULRICH'S contains information on serials across all subject areas, providing details on price and subscription options.
ULRICH'S can also be searched to obtain information such as serial titles, publishers, the frequency of publication, reviews, access and availability, alternative formats, and language of the publication.
ULRICH'S can be searched using either a quick search, an advanced search or simply by just browsing.

To access this database from home you will need to give your computer a temporary university of York network address. See How to Connect for instructions on how to access ULRICH'S, off campus.
To locate a journal enter either the title or a subject term in the Quick search box located on the top right of the screen.
You may also choose one of the options from the drop-down menu. Click on Submit
Click on the
button located on the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Type a search term or a number of terms in the boxes provided on the left hand side of the screen.
Link the search terms using the Boolean operators; AND to refine your search, OR to broaden it, AND NOT to exclude unwanted terms. Be careful when using the term AND NOT as you may exclude results that might be of relevance to your search.
To limit your results select options from the right hand side of the screen, you may limit by publication dates, language, publisher, country, frequency of publication or by reviewer.
Choose how the results are to be sorted and displayed by choosing options from the lower left hand side of the search screen.
If you are unsure of a title or are searching to find the range of journals available for your subject, then use the browse option.
Either select from the browse options under the Quick search box or for further options select the
button on the menu bar at the top of the screen.
The search results are displayed in groups of 25. They are displayed alphabetically by title, unless stipulated otherwise in an advanced search.
By clicking on a header button the results can be displayed alphabetically in ascending order by that field. Clicking on it again will resort the results in descending order.
If there are too many results click on the
or
buttons to either make changes to the original search or to begin again.
Select a title from the results list and click on it.
Basic description contains a variety of facts about the publication and varies from record to record. Most commonly it contains, title, publisher, country of publication, language, status of the publication, frequency, format, price and a description.
Scroll down the screen until you find the information required.

ULRICH'S provides a search history allowing you to research a previously used term or to combine searches.
Click on the Advanced Search button then click on Search history just above the advanced search box on the right hand side.
Select the searches you wish to combine using the Boolean operators and then click on Combine Search.
To mark a selection of records from a page click the box next to it (alternatively to select all records scroll down to the end of the results and click on Select all titles on this page).
At the bottom of the page, in the right hand corner, click on either Print, Download, or E-mail, and follow the instructions given.
