Texts and calendars: a guide to holdings in York

Preface

This guide gives locations in five York libraries for material listed in E.L.C. Mullins, Texts and calendars: an analytical guide to serial publications (London: Royal Historical Society, 1958-1983), with locations for record society publications and other material published since.

The arrangement of the material is, in part, different from that which Mullins has adopted. The publications of the Record Commissioners, the Public Record Office, and the series usually known as the Rolls Series, which appear in the first part of both of Mullins' works, are listed here in the order in which they appear in H.M.S.O. Sectional List 24, British national archives, revised 1 January 1984. Likewise, the publications of the Historical Manuscripts Commission are listed in the order in which they appear in H.M.S.O. Sectional List 17, Publications of the Royal Commission on Historical Manuscripts, revised 12 January 1985. The names of societies in part III, i.e., English local societies, have been arranged in this guide in an alphabetical order, unlike that adopted by Mullins.
