This page provides information for students and staff who have been away from the University over the summer vacation, and would like to learn more about recent Library developments.
24-hour loans have been introduced so that more students have the opportunity to borrow the items in highest demand. They are shelved with the books on the main shelves in the Library and are identifiable by red tape on the spine of the book. They cannot be booked or requested, and cannot be renewed. The Library remains open and all Library services will be maintained throughout this phase of work - ask a member of Library staff if you are unsure where to go.
During the refurbishment of the ground floor of the JB Morrell Library, the Harry Fairhurst will operate as a separate building with its own temporary entrance situated at the South West side of the ground floor (by the external lift and staircase). The Library Catalogue, YorSearch, has been upgraded over the summer vacation. The main feature of the upgrade is the integration of MetaLib, allowing you to start your search for books and journal articles from the same place.
Loyal users of the existing Classic Catalogue need not worry, as this will continue to be available alongside YorSearch throughout the next academic year.
Please let us have your comments and suggestions on the upgraded catalogue: complete the form available in the Library, or email lib-comments@york.ac.uk.
Information about our opening hours, building developments and other Library matters is kept up to date:
IT Services also provides information for returning users, including details of the new York Print Plus service and a roundup of summer upgrades.
