Online tutorials

The Library has produced a set of tutorials which are designed to help you develop information discovery and handling skills. These skills will be of use to you in your University studies and beyond.

The tutorials are available on the Yorkshare VLE. Login to Yorkshare and the Library Tutorials will be listed beneath your departmental modules.

We would suggest that new users work their way through the tutorials in the following order:

  1. Welcome to the Library
  2. Using YorSearch Library catalogue
  3. Using the Classic Library Catalogue (also available on the Web)
  4. Understanding and using Journals
  5. Evaluating Websites

The Classic Library Catalogue tutorial requires you to have JavaScript enabled and a minimum screen resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels.

It also has Flash demonstrations and requires you to have Flash Player installed. An audio track is supplied with these demonstrations. The playback toolbar will be located at the bottom of the screen and, depending on your screen settings, you may have to scroll down to access it.
