Reference collections

Why do you need to use reference collections?

Although many reference sources are now available on the web, sometimes it's quicker to look up information in a print publication, and sometimes the information isn't yet available online. We limit use of reference resources to the Library so that they are always available for quick reference.

What reference collections are there?

There are several collections which are for use in the Library only:

  • Reference Collection on the first floor of the JB Morrell Library is used to gather together in one convenient location frequently used material such as encyclopedias, handbooks, directories and dictionaries
  • Statistical sources at Shelf location F on the second floor of the JBM Library
  • Government publications in Compact Store 2 on the ground floor of the JBM Library
  • Humanities Research Reference collection in the Raymond Burton Library Reading Room which includes the Elton Collection, microform research collections and humanities bibliographies
  • Research and Special Collections can be rare or valuable so they can't be removed from the building
