These Visit Days are specifically aimed at those of you who have applied via UCAS to study in the department, and who have received an offer from us. We encourage all our prospective students to come to a Visit Day, to meet with staff and current students in the Department, and get a feel for yourself of what life will be like as a student in York.

There is a full programme for students and parents, including:

  • 2.00-2.20pm welcome talk from the Admissions Tutor
    • what's special about York?
  • 2.20-2.40pm taster mini-lecture in linguistics by a member of academic staff
  • 2.40-3.15pm what will I study?
    • detailed discussion with tutors, by degree programme
  • 3.15-3.45pm campus tour led by current students
    • includes a visit to study bedrooms/accommodation
  • 3.45-4.00pm Q&A session
  • 4.00-4.30pm optional practical demonstration in the e-lab
    • parallel programme for parents on finance, accommodation and careers, plus Q&A.

Log in to You@York via http://www.york.ac.uk/study/undergraduate/you-at-york/ to sign up to come along on the date that suits you best.

If you can't attend a Visit Day on one of these dates, then an independent visit to the Department is usually possible instead. Contact us in advance to let us know when you hope to come: linguistics-ug-admissions@york.ac.uk.

Information to help you plan an independent visit is here: http://www.york.ac.uk/study/visit/independent-visits/.
