MA in Linguistics by Research

The MA (by research) involves training in research methods, such coursework as may be deemed necessary, integration into one of the departmental research groups and a dissertation, for which the degree is awarded.

In order to take the MA in Linguistics (by research), you must satisfy the Department that you already have a sound grasp of the relevant areas of linguistics. Your application to the Graduate School must include a detailed research proposal.

Programme requirements

Candidates must submit a detailed research proposal to the Graduate School.  This MA involves training in research methods, such course work as may be deemed necessary, integration into one of the departmental research groups and a dissertation of 20,000-25,000 words, which is submitted in September.

Eligibility for non-native English speakers

An IELTS score of 7 in both the written and oral assessment for non native English speakers whose first degree was not taught in English.
