The needs of the majority of users for PDF creation can be met using Office 2007/2010 or Nuance PDF Converter.

The Office 2007/2010 built-in Save as PDF function enables the creation of non-editable PDFs from Office applications.

Nuance PDF Converter provides a range of functionality, including the ability to:

  • Create editable PDF files from multiple source documents supporting Office and non-Office applications
  • Edit and annotate PDF files directly, eg correct, track changes, comment, etc
  • Control document security, including making the PDF file non-editable
  • Create and complete PDF forms
  • Convert PDF files back to fully formatted source document, eg PDF to Word
  • Create and manage archives

Both Office and PDF Converter are supported by built-in help and reference guides. Further information about PDF Converter can be found on the PDF Converter web page.

This provision is a full replacement for Adobe Acrobat Pro 6, removed as part of the Office 2007 install on staff machines. PDF Converter Pro can be installed by going to:
Start | Control Panel | Run Advertised Programs (Windows XP)
Start | Control Panel | Programs | Run Advertised Programs (Windows 7)
and is available from the IT Support Office for unsupported PCs.

PDF Converter is installed on all IT Services classroom PCs.
