Welcome to SWRDU

The Social Work Research and Development Unit (SWRDU) was established in 1992. It now has 13 research staff and three administrative staff and receives funding from government departments, charitable trusts and local authorities.

Our work focuses mainly on social work and associated services for children and young people. It includes research, dissemination, consultancy and service development in the areas of services for:

  • vulnerable children and young people
  • looked-after young people
  • young people leaving care.

SWRDU is part of the Department of Social Policy and Social Work.
