Children and Families Team Parent Consultation Group
The research of the Children and Families Team is supported by a consultation group of parents. Members have first-hand experience of health and/or social care services through being a parent or carer of a disabled child. A parallel group of disabled young people also advises us on our work.
Recognising that parents are ‘experts' on the lives of families with disabled children, the group was set up in 2001 to involve parents/carers in all stages of the research process, including identifying topics for research, preparing proposals, advising on the methods we should use, and disseminating findings. In this way the team ensures its research is responsive to issues that are important to disabled children and young people and their families.
The group meets in SPRU three times a year, once every academic term. Individuals from the group have also joined advisory groups for specific research projects within the team.
Parents/carers of children of different ages and wide ranging physical and/or learning disabilities are represented on the group. This leaflet explains more about the group - click here to open the leaflet (PDF 93KB)
