Overview
This special interest group will consider the acoustics of the trained and untrained human singing voice. This will be presented through lectures and seminars, voice production, the acoustics of the singing voice, and the effects of training. Practical work will include a voice training session and singing synthesis.
Indicative content
- Introduction to the physiology of human voice production
- Speech and singing
- Introduction to the training of the professional voice
- The function of the larynx
- Acoustics of the singing voice
- Voice source and acoustic measurements
- Singing synthesis techniques
Assessment
A web-based review of an agreed topic in singing.
Learning Outcomes:
By the end of this module students will:
- understand the basic acoustics of the human singing voice
- have experienced a voice lesson with tips for healthy voice production
- synthesised electronically sung sounds
- presented an individual seminar without notes.
