The benefits of green chemistry are applicable to countless specialist as well as everyday products including: paints, dyes, textiles, adhesives, agrochemical, personal care, paper, pharmaceutical, plastics and specialty as well as bulk chemicals.
All these products involve some aspect of chemistry throughout their research, design and development. Green Chemistry focuses on efficient use of raw materials through application of catalysis and alternative synthetic pathways. It also aims to reduce or eliminate the use or generation of substances that are hazardous to health and the environment in the design, manufacture and application of products. By examining products throughout their full life cycle (Life Cycle Assessment) it is clear that the principles of green chemistry are relevant to consumer goods, retailers, supermarkets and governmental organisations. No company can afford to let their processes or products stand still in the light of increasingly stringent environmental legislation and growing global market competitiveness calling for more efficient and more environmentally responsible processes and products.
