Despite the increased sociological interest in the female body during the second half of the 20th century, menstruation has remained largely ignored as a topic of empirical investigation. Through the current study, I aim at an in-depth exploration of the embodied
menstrual experiences of Cypriot women. More specifically, I plan to gather and analyze qualitative data on the menstrual attitudes, perceptions, and practices of different generations of women. The extent to which such views and experiences reflect the status position of women across time in the Cypriot context will also be considered. The theoretical background of this study will be of interdisciplinary nature, as I plan to draw upon sociological, anthropological and feminist theories.
