In 2007 I graduated from my Joint Honours Bachelors degree in French and Spanish from the University of Leeds. Having enjoyed the political and historical modules during my undergraduate degree, I continued to study at Leeds for an MA in Colonial and Postcolonial Studies. After graduating from my MA in 2008 I took a year out to live in South America and consider which topic I would focus on at PhD level.
Beginning my PhD at York in 2009, I am researching gender inequality in sports media coverage of athletes in the British printed press. Motivated by my own passion for sports (I compete in triathlons and aspire to swim the English Channel in the future), I am interested in the role models available to girls and boys and how that affects their subsequent involvement in physical activity, as well as levels of health and self-esteem in adulthood.
