Research Group Event Year 2

Painting

Following on from the success of last year's Research Away Day at the Rainbow 'ceremic' café the Centre decided to fund the this year's intake of MPhil/PhD students for a similar research/bonding experience using the 'Robert's' money.

All currently registered MPhil and PhD candidates were invited to the Rainbow 'ceramic' Café at 1.00pm on Thursday 20th October. New students were able to personalize a mug for use in the Common Room whilst continuing students were encouraged to paint a plate or bowl using their previously honed painting skills learnt on last year's away day.

The main aims of the day were:

  • To include in the Centre's website information about each of the new researcher's project and interests. Researchers wrote a short piece about themselves and their work, as they wanted to present it on the web.
  • To spend time together as group doing something completely different away from the 'normal' research environment.
  • To talk together about activities and draw up a research training programme of courses we wanted to see offered in or by the Centre in the coming year.
  • To hear from Eleanor Loughlin of staff development about the research training available centrally at the University.
