University of York

 A warm welcome to

Centre for Women's Studies Alumni and Friends

We are delighted you are browsing the Centre’s web pages. As you know, CWS is 25 years old in 2009, and we are marking this momentous occasion with a series of events and activities.

Alumni are key to these celebrations: this year we will inaugurate a CWS Alumni Association, plant a CWS Anniversary Grove on campus, organise an alumni postcard project, and publish on the CWS web site a list of the wonderful dissertations and theses written during our first quarter-century. Wherever you live we invite you to participate either by coming to York or by contributing to one of the distance projects.

What next?

Alumni Association
Two former students of CWS, Emma Robertson and Lizzie Guinness, are co-ordinating the Alumni Association steering group.

To help us set up a network we need your contact details which the alumni office is helping us to collate. Please enter your details via this link if you haven’t already done so. The form is quite long, but feel free to fill in as much or as little as you want.

If you are on Facebook, do join the 'Centre for Women's Studies Alumni and Friends' group

And please contact Lizzie and Emma if you would like to help organise the Alumni group, organise an event or if you would just like to say Hello.

CWS Students: Past, Present and Future
We all know how life-changing studying in CWS can be, personally, intellectually, emotionally - and financially. Women’s Studies degrees can also have an effect far beyond the individual, as graduates take their knowledge out into the world.

We intend to foster closer ties between alumni and students by means of two strategies. One, by creating an Alumni Bursary Fund to help more students to pursue a women’s studies degree at York. And two, by starting a mentoring scheme, whereby alumni can actively advise and support students and new graduates in their field.

If you have particular expertise in fund-raising or accounting, or in professional and activist mentoring, or have organisational suggestions, then please email Emma and Lizzie at cwsalumni@gmail.com
