The role of housing officers
in multi-agency working with young people on
social housing estates
This research, funded by the Joseph Rowntree
Foundation and published in collaboration with
the Chartered Institute of Housing, explored
the role of the housing officer within multi-agency
projects that were aimed at 10-16 year olds
living on social housing estates. The research
was focussed on youth work on ten estates,
and included a range of activities including
detached youth work, centre-based activities
(for example, youth clubs and kick-about facilities)
and developmental projects. The research examined
the differing roles being taken by all the
agencies involved on the estate, and included
interviews with police officers, youth workers,
community workers, and tenant representatives
as well as housing officers themselves. The
final report stressed the benefits to housing
officers of some involvement with this sort
of work. Visit the JRF
website and read the Findings for the role
of housing officers in multi-agency working
with young people.
