Housing Finance Review 01/02: Online Update

The annual Housing Finance Review is widely recognised as the most comprehensive source for key current financial and related data about both public and private housing throughout the United Kingdom. It is compiled by Professor Steve Wilcox at the Centre for Housing Policy, University of York.

The Review draws on a wide range of Expenditure Plans and Departmental Reports, as well as statistical volumes, survey reports, and other more occasional research reports. The Review also includes a number of tables constructed from databases that are not routinely published elsewhere. Many tables provide time series stretching back to1970, while others provide more detailed analysis of the current characteristics of housing markets in all tenures.

The On Line Update

The 2001/02 edition of the Review included 114 tables (as well as a number of further tables and figures in the accompanying short articles). The latest data for the great majority of the tables in the Review only become available during the March to June period each year. There are, however, a small number of tables where data becomes available somewhat earlier in the year. This includes a number of tables that are drawn from the annual Family Expenditure Survey, General Household Survey and Survey of English Housing.

There are two versions of each table, one in Microsoft Excel format and one in adobe acrobat  (portable document format .pdf) format. More details about acrobat and the free viewer are available from Adobe.

Those updated tables are displayed here in advance of the publication of the 2002/03 edition of the Review in the late summer. The updated tables displayed are :

Notes on downloading the tables

The tables are in Excel 2000 and Acrobat Four. In order to fit some of the larger tables onto a single 'sheet' a small font has been used (otherwise Acrobat breaks them down into many components that are difficult to reassemble as a whole table), please use the magnification facilities within Acrobat or Acrobat reader to view these tables. If you experience problems with downloading any of the tables please send an email
