Newbury Cemetery Survey
|
|
| |
In April 1996 the Cemetery Research Group
was approached to complete a survey of burial
provision in the Newbury District area, to
establish demand for burial space, and the
capacity of the local authority cemetery to
meet that demand. The research entailed contacting
all possible providers of burial space in the
area, including parochial church, parish and
town councils. Newbury is largely rural, and
the research found that over 50 per cent of
interments were taking place in Anglican churchyards.
Taking all providers together, the survey found
that there was sufficient capacity to last
for some time. Some of the vicars contacted
commented that they intended to reuse parts
of their churchyard.
