How to apply

Before you apply

All students studying for a research degree with the IEE are registered with the University of York Department of Education. Please follow the Education links below for full details of the application process, eligibility, and advice.

Research should be in areas related to the interests of our staff and department. Please explore this website for details about current and previous reseach. The specific interests of our supervisory staff are listed here.

We strongly encourage all students applying to study with us to informally discuss their proposals prior to submitting an application. Please contact our Director of Postgraduate Studies Dr Tracey Bywater in the first instance.

Your application

All applications should be made through the University's online application system. Your application should clearly indicate how your proposal fits with the IEE's aims and research themes. If you have discussed your proposal with a potential IEE supervisor you should also clearly state this in your application, otherwise you should indicate which member of staff you would potentially like to work with.
