Reading Roots Interactive

Reading Roots is a beginning reading programme that is part of the Success for All whole-school reform programme. We worked with colleagues from Concordia University in Canada on the development of an innovative, interactive version of Reading Roots. This built on work that began in the US under National Science Foundation funding.

Reading Roots Interactive uses interactive whiteboards to help teachers organise and effectively implement classroom strategies that emphasise co-operative learning, embedded multimedia, well-crafted demonstrations and questions, and formative assessments.

A pilot of the programme was carried out in 2008/09, which helped inform the development of the programme. Our evaluation took place in 2009/10, and included ten schools already participating in the Success for All evaluation. The results showed positive effects compared to the control schools.
