Icons for File and Service Types

The following icons can be used to represent different types of file, often identified by a MIME type. Icons for different types of service are also included.

Each icon is followed by its full URL, then a suggestion as to its use.

A binary file when no other, more specific, icon is available.

A file encoded using BinHex, commonly used for the Apple Macintosh.

A C source code file.
http://www.york.ac.uk/icons/types/compressed.gif
A file compressed, for example, using the UNIX compress or gzip commands, or for other machines' software such as StuffIt for the Apple Macintosh.

A DVI file, such as those produced from TeX.

A FORTRAN source code file.

A generic file.

An image, or a file containing image.

An index, or a search facility.

A file containing data produced with uuencode.

A 3D world produced using, for example, VRML, or some other 3D file format.
