Biography
Melissa's interests are focused on the impact of transition and conversion on the visual arts of the early medieval period. Her PhD research focuses on the meaning and function of richly ornamented metalwork from the period of conversion, from the sixth to the eighth centuries, in Anglo-Saxon England. Her thesis attempts to explore the potential purpose, beyond ornament, of the imagery used to decorate early Anglo-Saxon objects and how it may have altered as the region converted to Christianity
