Profile

Biography

Lucinda's research interests lie in eighteenth-century British art, particularly the development of narrative or 'genre' painting in the period 1760-80, covering the first two decades of London's emergent exhibition culture. Her PhD thesis, entitled 'Edward Penny: Genre Painting and Exhibition Culture in Eighteenth-Century England', seeks to use the important but little-studied Georgian artist Edward Penny (1714-91) as the lens through which to explore the phenomenon of the early public exhibition and, in parallel with this, the rise of a pioneering form of exhibition-worthy genre painting. Lucinda's project is fully funded by the AHRC.
