Welcome to our mentors website. This is intended for those who mentor our pre-registration nursing and midwifery students in practice.

You will find four sections that aim to map out the process of becoming and practicing as a mentor. There are links to key organisations concerned with learning and assessing in practice on each page.

The four sections include:

How do I become a mentor?
  • This section contains details of the Mentor Preparation Programme and also guidance on accessing preparatory study skills programmes
How do I register as a mentor?
  • This section contains details of how to register as a mentor if you have just completed our Mentor Preparation Programme, or if you have recently joined one of our local placement providers
How do I maintain my mentor registration?
  • This section contains details of NMC Standards and local mentor updates, in addition to a link to professional development opportunities
I am a mentor
  • This section has two main elements:
    • Which type of student? - information about the various programmes.
    • Managing Learning - the process of mentoring a student and will be a major source of help to you in improving the learning experience of your student but also if things are not going well
Have your say - Mentor preparation programme
  •  This section provides the opportunity for mentors to comment on any aspect of the programme as it develops
