Clinically focused diabetes education

Diabetes is a long term condition affecting nearly three million people within the United Kingdom. Its prevalence is increasing at an alarming rate annually. Diabetes causes a potentially shortened life expectancy and increased risks of cardiovascular disease, stroke, renal disease and blindness, among other complications.

There is increasing evidence however that effective management and intervention can help to reduce and aim to prevent both acute and long-term complications from diabetes.

The number of people developing diabetes is increasing globally. In the UK alone diabetes is a serious problem, with a devastating impact on individuals and their families. NHS primary care, acute hospitals and community services all play a key role in responding to the recommendations of the National Service Framework (NSF) for Diabetes.

Together with primary and secondary health care services throughout Yorkshire, North Lincolnshire and England, we have established a strong collection of diabetes focussed programmes for health care professionals involved in delivering diabetes care and supporting the individual with diabetes.

These include a diabetes specific degree programme which both recruits from across England, as well as a highly evaluated freestanding module. We also hold regular study days and run the Enhanced Insulin in Action study day series annually.

We work with a range of clinicians from around the region in teaching, to ensure that the programmes are clinically up-to-date and dynamic.
