This module reflects both the national and local priorities for the management of patients with chronic heart failure. It is suitable for health care practitioners in both primary care and the hospital setting. Driven by changing government policy in this developing field of care it offers an exciting opportunity to develop the knowledge and skills needed in managing the care of patients with chronic heart failure.
The module is practice focused, emphasising patient assessment and clinical skills. Practitioners will practise consultation skills for heart failure management in the Clinical Simulation Unit and have the opportunity to work with a Heart Failure Nurse Specialist in clinical practice.
You will explore living with heart failure from the patient perspective alongside practising history taking and physical assessment. You will examine the evidence underpinning pharmacological and lifestyle management with consideration for the underlying ethical issues. You will also consider the provision of psychological support for palliative care in the light of current service developments.
The assessment for this module consists of a brief reflective case study and a clinical skills exam.
If you successfully complete this module you will be awarded 20 credit points by the University of York, at Level 6.
