When you apply for a part-time diploma, degree or masters level pathway, you will be expected to submit a claim for any previous relevant learning undertaken. This claim is referred to as Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL) and enables us to formally recognise your previous education and/or experience. Once recognised, previous learning can be used as credit against your diploma, degree or masters level pathway.
Previous learning can have occured in two ways: from personal and professional experience, or from undertaking formal courses of study.
Where learning is gained from personal and professional experience, this is known as Accreditation of Prior and Experiental Learning (APEL).
Where learning has occured though formal study, this is referred to as Accreditation of Prior Certificated Learning (APCL).
It is important that you discuss your APL claim before commencing your pathway with us. All applications for APL should be submitted and processed before you commence your course. Failure to do so will delay course registration.
For all APL enquires or information please contact Anita Savage-Grainge on anita.savagegrainge@york.ac.uk or tel: (01904) 321669.
Please note that there will be a charge for processing APEL claims. APCL claims are free.
