Departmental roles

Richard is the Research Administrator providing administrative support to the research activity of the department. He works in a part-time capacity.

Key duties

  • First point of contact for academic staff conducting research. Richard co-ordinates departmental research applications and bids to research councils and other funding bodies. This involves liaison with the Research Grants and Contracts office, and the Research and Enterprise Directorate at the University.  He maintains a database of grant applications pending and successful live awards.  
  • Richard assists in the preparation of external research funding applications. He generates project costings using the University’s costing system, pFACT, before submission to UK Research Councils, EU funding bodies, as well as UK Govt, and charity options. 
  • Provides support to the Departmental Ethics Review Committee. He liaises with staff and students to ensure that applications to the Ethics committee are processed swiftly. Richard keeps a database of the Ethics review applications, information which is annually monitored by the University Ethics committee.
  • He provides administrative support to the Departmental Research Committee, preparing and distributing documentation prior to meetings. 

Richard's working hours are:

  • Wednesday 1315 - 1700
  • Thursday 0845 - 1700
  • Friday 0845 - 1700

When not in the Department of Environment and Geography, Richard works as a freelance Archaeologist, and has worked on projects throughout the UK, the Middle East, and West Africa.
