Biography
Rebecca's current role is to provide in depth technical support to the department's research teams. She also assists in running our teaching laboratories as and when required, having performed that role since 2004.
Rebecca's key responsibilities include
- Support to departmental research staff
- Support of students engaged in research projects at BSc and MSc/PhD level
- Laboratory organisation including ordering, stock control, instrument specification etc
- Advice on the handling and disposal of hazardous laboratory chemicals
- Maintenance, operation and troubleshooting of key specialised analytical instrumentation
- Provision of instruction and training to members of academic and research staff in detailed and safe usage of complex laboratory equipment
Rebecca is responsible for the following research analytical instrumentation
- Shimadzu AA-6300 atomic absorption spectrophotometer
- Alpha atomic absorption spectrophotometer
- Bran + Luebbe Autoanalyzer 3 (continuous flow analysis)
- Dionex DX-120 ion chromatograph
- Dionex ICS-2000 ion chromatograph
- Elementar Liquitoc total organic carbon analyser
- Elementar Vario MACRO carbon/nitrogen analyser
Rebecca is also responsible for
- pH meters
- analytical balances
- pipettes
- chemical stocks
- consumable stocks
- dissolved oxygen meters
- general field equipment e.g GPS units, hard hats, quadrats, clinometers etc
- provision of ultrapure water (Elga)
Rebecca possesses a proven track history in environmental science support roles and is a key member of our support staff.
